Wyoming (Page 4 of 4):
Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park is found primarily in northwest
Wyoming but small portions are also found in the states of Idaho and
Montana. Yellowstone became a national park on March 1, 1872 and is the
first and oldest national park in the world. All but one percent of
Yellowstone's more then two million acres remains untouched by human
activities.

Old Faithful Geyser

The Lower Falls of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

The scenery and wildlife at Yellowstone is spectacular!
1988 was a year of extreme drought for the United States
and
one of the consequences of this drought was a series of tremendous
forest fires in Yellowstone National Park. These fires began in July of
1988 and continued until September of 1988. Nearly 800,000 acres of the
park (which is approximately one-third of the total area of the park)
were consumed! The following pictures were taken on June 13 and 14 of
1999 and show numerous dead trees standing even after eleven years. The
new trees are slow to grow. Notice in the first picture that the new
pines are only three or four feet high.
