          Let it snow!!!

My favorite time of the year is, and has always been, winter. No amount of snow is too much, and no snowstorm is too heavy or too severe! I am so obsessed with snow, in fact, that I was known as "Bob the snow chaser" while I was a meteorology student at Central Michigan University. While the other meteorology students fantasized about chasing the ultimate thunderstorm or tornado, I fantasized about chasing and witnessing the ultimate blizzard! This next photo was taken during a "lake-effect" snowstorm in the suburbs of Grand Rapids, Michigan. A "lake-effect" snowstorm is the result of cold winter air picking up tremendous amounts of moisture as it crosses the unfrozen waters of the Great Lakes. It can be totally sunny in Wisconsin while Michigan is experiencing extremely heavy snow.

I love to go for walks during the winter months. I am awed at the beauty of bright snow cover, barren tree limbs, and blustery winter landscapes. I find winter far more enjoyable and far more beautiful than the green colors of summer. Winter is one of the most amazing wonders of God's creation!

Some people think I'm a little odd after I tell them that I actually enjoy shoveling snow off driveways. I hate using a snow blower because I love to feel the weight of the snow as I scoop it up in my shovel and throw it on top of an ever-growing pile of snow! I was always fascinated with huge snow piles when I was a child, and I have never lost that fascination!

I hope you have enjoyed your brief tour of the winter season in the suburbs of Grand Rapids, Michigan! I will end with this gallery in the same place that we began: the dead of winter!
