Records tied or set this winter:

1. Daily snow depth records were set on November 9 (2 inches; the previous record was a trace in 2008), November 10 (4 inches; the previous record was 3 inches in 2011), November 11 (1 inch; the previous record was a trace in 2011 and 2013), November 12 (3 inches; the previous record was a trace in 2012 and 2013), November 13 (2 inches; the previous record was 1 inch in 2014), November 26 (6 inches; the previous record was 4 inches in 2006), November 27 (5 inches; the previous record was 2 inches in 2014), November 28 (5 inches; the previous record was 3 inches in 2013), April 14 (4 inches; the previous record was 1 inch in 2014), and April 28 (2 inches; the previous record was 0 inches). Also, the snow depth on November 29 tied the daily snow depth record of 4 inches set in 2011.

2. There were 17 days with at least a trace of snowfall in November. This tied the record for the most November days with at least a trace of snowfall (set in November 2014).

3. There were 12 days with measurable snowfall in November (at least 0.1 inch). This broke the record for the most November days with measurable snowfall (11 days set in November 2014).

4. There were 12 days in November with at least 1 inch of snow on the ground. This tied the record for the most November days with at least 1 inch of snow on the ground (set in 2014).

5. January 15 was the 7th consecutive day with at least 1 inch of snow on the ground. This is the first time during the current winter season that 7 consecutive days of snow cover have been observed. This sets a record for the latest in the winter for which the first 7 consecutive days (one week) of snow cover have been observed.

6. The snow depth fell from 11 inches on February 2nd to 6 inches on February 3rd. This is a loss of 5 inches of snow depth in one day, which ties the record for the most snow depth lost in a single day.

7. The snow depth fell from 11 inches on February 2nd to 2 inches on February 4th. This is a loss of 9 inches of snow depth in 48 hours, which breaks the record (8 inches) for the most snow depth lost in 48 hours.

8. Kalamazoo had at least one inch of snow on the ground from February 8th through March 11^th (32 consecutive days). This is the longest streak of snow cover (defined as “1 inch or greater”) that has been observed for the current winter season. Prior to the 2015-16 winter, the average number of days for the longest streak of snow cover was 50 days. Since the 2015-16 winter, the average number of days for the longest streak of snow cover has only been 23 days. Thus, Kalamazoo has seen a decrease in the durability of its snowpack over the past four winters.

9. The snow depth was 4 inches on April 14th. This is the latest date in spring that a snow depth of 4 or more inches has been observed at observation time (11:59 p.m.). The previous record for the latest snow depth of 4 or more inches at observation time occurred on April 11, 2007 (4 inches). Note that greater snow depths have been measured in April at other times of the day, such as on April 11, 2007 when 6 inches of snow fell but 2 of those inches melted before observation time.

10. The snow depth of 4 inches on April 14th tied the record for the greatest snow depth measured in April at observation time (11:59 p.m.).

11. A total of 1.5 inches of snow fell on April 27th. This is the latest date in the season that at least 1 inch of snow has fallen in a single day. The previous record for the latest date in the season that at least 1 inch of snow has fallen in a single day was April 24, 2005 when 1.4 inches of snow fell.

12. The snow depth was 2 inches on April 27th. This is the latest in the spring that a snow depth of 1 or more inch has been observed at observation time (11:59 p.m.). The previous record for the latest snow depth of 1 or more inch at observation time occurred on April 23, 2005 (1 inch).

13. A total of 0.1 inch of snow fell on April 28th. This is the second latest date in the season on record that measurable snow (0.1 inch or greater) has been recorded. The record for the latest date on record for measurable snow is May 2, 2005 when 0.1 inch fell.
